Emilia Clarke expressed her gratitude for being given a sex scene in Game of Thrones by thanking the show's creators. The actress, known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen, revealed that she had faced criticism for her previous nude and raunchy scenes on the show.
However, the scene in question, where she took on a dominant role with her co-star Michiel Huisman, helped to change the narrative and boost her confidence. Emilia approached the show's creators, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, to express her appreciation for the scene, stating that it was something she had been waiting for.
"That, in itself, is incredibly anti-feminist. It's disheartening to see women criticizing and belittling other women. However, it was quite empowering to have a scene where I could say, 'There you go!'"
However, in 2019, she opened up about her fear of filming nude scenes during an interview on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast. She admitted, "When I accepted the job, I didn't realize there would be nude scenes. After receiving the scripts and reading them, I thought, 'Oh, there's the catch!'"
"But coming straight from drama school, I approached it as a professional commitment. If it's in the script, then it must be necessary. I saw it as an opportunity to make sense of the scene and handle it with maturity. I believed everything would turn out fine."
"I've never experienced a film set quite like this before. I had only been on a film set twice prior to this, and now I find myself standing here completely exposed, surrounded by all these individuals. I feel utterly clueless about what I'm supposed to do, uncertain about the expectations placed upon me.
I'm lost, not knowing what you desire from me, and even more so, unsure of what I truly desire myself."
She further stated, "Even if there was no nudity involved, I would have still felt unworthy of asking for anything or needing anything during the first season."
During a particular scene alongside her co-star Jason Momoa, both actors found themselves in tears following a harrowing near-rape sequence.
Emilia expressed, "He cried even more than I did. Reflecting on it now, I realize how lucky I was in that situation, as it could have turned out very differently. Jason, being an experienced actor who had worked on various projects before joining this one, guided me through it all. He would say, 'Darling, this is how it should be, this is how it shouldn't be, and I'll make sure it's done right.'"
"He always made sure I was comfortable, even going as far as saying, 'Can we please get her a robe? She's freezing!' He was incredibly kind, considerate, and genuinely cared about me as a person."
