Curtis Martin, 25, is now facing serious legal repercussions after allegedly torturing a 3-month-old puppy. The charges include cropping the dog's ears and preparing to dock its tail before placing the animal in a garbage bag.

On Friday morning, a concerned citizen called 911, reporting the sound of an animal crying near 8 Mile and Woodward in Ferndale. The caller also witnessed Martin putting a small creature into a trash bag.

When police arrived, they found Martin crouched next to his vehicle with the hatch open. According to reports, he attempted to flee but was apprehended shortly thereafter.

Inside the trunk, officers discovered the puppy with a trash bag over its head. Both ears had been severed, and the tail was tied off, indicating an intent to remove it entirely.

Further investigation revealed scissors and surgical supplies in Martin's car, along with a significant amount of blood.

The injured puppy was promptly taken to a local animal hospital for urgent care and will be transferred to Oakland County Animal Control once it is stable enough for adoption.

Martin faces multiple felony charges, including second-degree animal torture and two counts of resisting arrest. He was arraigned and given a cash bond set at $100,000, with a court date scheduled for June 16.

Authorities have praised the 911 caller for their quick action in reporting the incident. "We are thankful for the vigilance of the 911 caller and the swift action of our patrol officers in rescuing this puppy," stated Ferndale Police Deputy Chief David Spellman. "This is a disturbing act of cruelty. We will all sleep better knowing the person responsible is in custody."

The details surrounding Martin's arrest were provided by Ferndale Police, highlighting the importance of community involvement in preventing animal cruelty.
