Florida Woman Arrested for Selling Human Bones on Facebook Marketplace

A 52-year-old woman from Deltona, Florida, has found herself in hot water after being arrested for allegedly buying and selling human bones online. Kymberlee Anne Schopper is facing serious charges related to trading in human tissue, as confirmed by the Orange City Police Department.

Schopper was released from the Volusia County Jail on a $7,500 bond following her arrest. The investigation began when police received a tip on December 21, 2023, about a local business that was reportedly selling human bones through Facebook Marketplace, as reported by FOX 35 Orlando.

Upon receiving the tip, officers reviewed images from the business's Facebook page, which showcased the unsettling items for sale. The shop, known as Wicked Wonderland, was allegedly offering various human remains, including two human skulls for $90, a human clavicle and scapula for $90, a human rib for $35, human vertebrae for $35, and a partial human skull for a staggering $600.

Authorities seized the human remains as evidence and sent them for testing by a medical examiner. When questioned about the products, a shop owner claimed that the store had been selling human bones for years and was unaware that it was illegal in Florida. According to the arrest affidavit, she stated, “She confirmed that the store had multiple human bone fragments, all purchased from private sellers, and mentioned she has documentation for these transactions but could not provide it at that moment.” She described the bones as genuine human remains and delicate in nature.

Interestingly, Schopper, who is also one of the shop's owners, insisted that the bones were merely “educational models.” In Florida, selling models is legal, which adds a layer of complexity to the case. However, experts examining the remains found that the cranium and skull fragment were likely archaeological artifacts, with some dating back over 100 years and others potentially over 500 years old, according to FOX 35.
