French Pizza Chef Admits to Murdering Reclusive Man, Dismembering, and Cooking His Body with Vegetables

May 20 2025
A French restaurant owner has admitted to the murder of a reclusive man during a robbery attempt that went tragically wrong. Philippe Schneider, 69, and his partner, Nathalie Caboubassy, 45, are currently on trial for their alleged roles in the 2023 death of 60-year-old Georges Meichler, whose disappearance initially baffled investigators.

So, here’s the deal: Schneider, who used to be a butcher, reportedly told the police that he and Caboubassy ended up killing Meichler while trying to break into his home, which is tucked away in the woods of Brasc, a small village in France. Now, Caboubassy is denying any involvement, which adds another layer of complexity to this already twisted tale.

According to reports, Schneider warned investigators that what he was about to share was “horrific.” And boy, was he right. He recounted how they tied up Meichler and gagged him, and when they returned after searching his home, they found him dead from suffocation. This is just one version of events, mind you, and it seems to change as the trial progresses.

To cover up the crime, Schneider claimed he dismembered Meichler’s body, burned his head, hands, and feet, and scattered the remains around the area and inside Meichler’s own van, which they had stolen. I mean, can you imagine? It’s like something out of a nightmare.

Schneider also mentioned that he tried cooking parts of Meichler’s body in a pot of vegetables, claiming it was part of some religious ritual he learned about in Nepal. He thought this would help mask the smell of the decaying body. Seriously, who thinks like that?

Another guy involved in this mess, a 25-year-old gravedigger who was allegedly roped in as an accomplice, testified that Schneider told him to cook the meat until it “falls off the bone” and to tell anyone who asked that it was “food for the dog.” I mean, can you even wrap your head around that?

Meichler’s daughter became concerned when her father went missing and filed a report after his ex-partner mentioned she hadn’t heard from him. Neighbors also noted that they hadn’t seen him around. To make things even stranger, the daughter received a text that seemed out of character for her dad, saying he was off to Brittany with a friend. It was just so unlike him, and you can’t help but feel for her.

Days later, police found Schneider and Caboubassy in Meichler’s stolen van. Schneider insisted that Meichler had lent them the vehicle, but investigators quickly uncovered the grim reality: they found the missing man’s remains and blood in the back of the van. Talk about a bad alibi.

Schneider has claimed that at the time of the murder, he was struggling with an addiction to alcohol and cannabis, which he says pushed him to attempt the burglary. Meanwhile, Caboubassy continues to maintain her innocence, insisting she had nothing to do with the murder.

“Philippe Schneider acknowledges his full responsibility and all the facts he is accused of,” his lawyer, Luc Abratkiewicz, stated. He went on to explain that Schneider was living a chaotic life filled with drugs and alcohol, which led to this “crazy idea” of robbing his neighbor. It’s a wild ride, to say the least.

Schneider is facing serious charges, including kidnapping leading to death, concealment of a corpse, and endangering the integrity of the corpse. Caboubassy and the gravedigger are also facing charges of complicity in this horrific crime.

As the trial unfolds, a verdict is expected to be announced on May 22. It’s hard to imagine what the outcome will be, but one thing’s for sure: this case has taken a dark turn that no one saw coming.
