‘I Gotta Go!’: Ex-Cheerleader Plows Into Cop After Tearing Down Road Barrier to Avoid Being Late
She won’t have much to cheer about from behind bars.

A 28-year-old former cheerleader and sorority member is facing serious assault charges after a reckless incident in Laurel, Maryland, where she hit a police officer with her car and drove into a crowded street fair. The entire chaotic scene was captured on bodycam footage, showcasing her entitled attitude as she insisted on getting to work.
Kai DeBerry-Bostick, a graduate of Bowie State University and a member of the Zeta Delta sorority, decided to take matters into her own hands on a Saturday morning. Ignoring police orders, she ripped down police tape and drove straight into a bustling festival, all because she was worried about being late for her job.
In the video, DeBerry-Bostick can be heard pleading with the officer, saying, “I need to get out, I need to get out. I gotta go.” Despite the officer’s calm offer to call her a cab, she refused, insisting that she needed to get to her job in Virginia. She then exited her vehicle, disregarding the officer’s instructions.

The officer firmly told her, “You cannot move this,” to which she defiantly replied, “I have to, sir,” before exclaiming, “I got to go to work! What do you want me to do?”
As the situation escalated, the officer reiterated, “You cannot get out. I can’t help you with that. Please do not disturb this area.” DeBerry-Bostick, however, was undeterred. She proceeded to tear down the yellow police tape and drove onto Main Street, where festival-goers were enjoying the event. At one point, she came alarmingly close to a man pushing a stroller.

“Stop! Stop your car!” the officer shouted as the crowd erupted in screams. Eventually, DeBerry-Bostick was pulled from her vehicle and handcuffed on the pavement. Following the incident, she was charged with assault and taken to the town lockup.
Fortunately, the officer sustained only minor injuries, and no other festival attendees were harmed. According to the Bowie State University website, DeBerry-Bostick was a cheerleader and an honor student who graduated in 2021. She even received recognition from her sorority after landing a job with a Maryland tax services company.

In a statement on social media, the Laurel police commended their officers for their quick response, stating, “Thanks to their rapid response, no festival-goers were harmed. However, during the incident, one of our officers did sustain minor injuries after being struck by the vehicle.”
Adding to the chaos, a planned parade for the festival was canceled due to a propane explosion at one of the booths, which injured a vendor and forced the closure of part of Main Street, according to police reports on X.
