Weta Digital’s Next Evolution: Cities Come to Life in Peter Jackson’s “Mortal Engines”
Nov 27 2018
The Christian Rivers-directed, Peter Jackson-produced “Mortal Engines” provided Weta Digital with some of its toughest challenges yet: the company had to create entire moving “predator cities” that would be as convincing as they were menacing. The company was up for the task. In the lead up to the release of “Mortal Engines,” Rotten Tomatoes sat down with Jackson and Rivers to break down the ways in which Weta had to innovate in order to create the steampunk world of the movie – including creating the “stalker” character of Shrike as they were shooting the movie. In the conclusion to Rotten Tomatoes’ oral history of Weta Digital, Jackson also reflects on how the company has changed over its 25 years, and where it is headed next.
