Which Rapper Started The G.O.A.T. Title In Hip-Hop? | Genius News
May 20 2019
The argument about which rapper is the greatest of all time, or G.O.A.T., dates back to the birth of hip-hop. LL Cool J is often credited for coining the term, but the acronym has a long history in sports. In fact, one of the earliest uses of the term—by Common on his 1997 song titled “Real Nigga Quotes”—refers to streetball legend Earl Manigault, who is said to be the original G.O.A.T. Similarly, LL Cool J’s own use of the acronym can be traced to boxer Muhammed Ali, who was known as “The Greatest.”
