The Truth About Kristin Cavallari And Jay Cutler's Divorce

After 10 years together and nearly seven years of marriage, Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler are getting divorced. The Uncommon James jewelry designer and reality TV star announced the split with a lengthy Instagram post in April 2020. She wrote, "With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce. We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of." As for why they're splitting up, Cavallari explained, "This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family." The couple shares three children, sons Camden Jack and Jaxon Wyatt, and daughter Saylor James. News of the breakup understandably shocked fans, who were accustomed to watching the couple bicker and run their businesses together on their E! reality show, Very Cavallari. But the news also re-fueled rumors about Cutler allegedly cheating on Cavallari with his wife's best friend. On Season 3 of the show, rumors about an affair between Cutler and Cavallari's best friend, Kelly Henderson, drove the plot for a handful of episodes. As a result, some fans have been left wondering whether any of the cheating rumors were true and might have contributed to the couple's divorce announcement. In January 2020, Cavallari denied the rumors, and told People, "When Season 2 was airing, there was a lot of talk on social media about Jay and Kelly having an affair [...] Not for one second have I ever thought that it was true. It wasn't the actual accusations of them having an affair that made me upset, it was how Kelly went about it." Cavallari was apparently hurt that Henderson continued to mention Cutler on social media, even when she asked her not to. Of the betrayal, the Uncommon James owner told People, "I’ve completely lost my friend. [...] Kelly was in my inner circle [...] So this has been really hard on me.” Before the split announcement and cheating rumors, Cavallari and Cutler always seemed very close. However, they had their share of ups and downs, especially at the start of their relationship. Cavallari opened up about how she first met Cutler in an interview with A Drink With. The reality star revealed, "I got a call from my publicist that Jay wanted to fly me out to Chicago and take me out. I didn’t know who he was! I had to Google him. I was in the middle of filming The Hills so I was like, 'I don’t want a boyfriend in Chicago,' and passed on it." It wasn't until a year later when she went to a football game with her mom that she was reminded of Cutler's offer. They finally met in 2010, and hit it off instantly. Cavallari explained in her book Balancing in Heels, “I flew back to Chicago at least every two weeks. When we were apart, we texted constantly, and he wrote me the sweetest love emails. Jay told me he loved me weeks into our relationship and told me he wanted to marry me after only two months. It all happened quickly." The couple's whirlwind romance saw them get engaged, break up, and get re-engaged all throughout the course of 2011. They tied the knot in 2013, a year after they welcomed their first child in August 2012. Of their decision to wed, Cavallari revealed in her book Balancing in Heels, "Having a kid made me realize that I wanted the security of a legal union for him. I wouldn't want him [...] to ever interpret our voluntarily not getting married as a sign that Jay and I may not be completely committed to our family." Fans were surprised by Cavallari and Cutler's divorce announcement, especially as the couple had just taken a trip to the Bahamas with their family and friends. The former couple looked pretty happy as they posed together, but whether or not the tropical vacation was a make or break trip remains unclear.
