This Is Why Kelly Clarkson's Ex Didn't Want To Have More Kids
Jun 16 2020
Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from her husband, Brandon Blackstock, in June 2020.
The couple was married in October 2013, reportedly after meeting in 2006 during a rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards, and dating since 2012.
Blackstock is a music manager who has two children, a daughter named Savannah and a son named Seth, from a previous marriage. He and Clarkson welcomed a daughter named River Rose in 2014 and a son named Remington Alexander in 2016.
The breakup news comes as a surprise, especially considering how happy the combined Clarkson-Blackstock family seemed to be on social media, even in recent days.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the blended family stayed at their ranch in Montana, with Blackstock making occasional appearances on Clarkson's Instagram.
Unfortunately, it seems that just because both parties are committed to parenting their children together doesn't necessarily mean the marriage is working out for everyone. While things may have looked good on the outside, there may have been some conflict going on behind the scenes. Several weeks prior to the announcement, Clarkson herself actually might have dropped a clue about some disagreements in the relationship.
Kelly Clarkson virtually interviewed celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay for The Kelly Clarkson Show in May 2020. Like a moment out of The Lion King, Ramsay proudly held up his 1-year-old son, Oscar, for the camera, a sight which made the show host promptly lose her mind.
When Clarkson saw Oscar, she gasped,
In other words, it sounds like Brandon Blackstock was content with the number of kids they already have, while perhaps Kelly had other ideas. A few minutes later, Clarkson saw Oscar again, claiming,
"I have baby fever! You get baby fever when you see them and you're like, 'Oh, I miss the chubby little legs and the little face.'"
Clarkson's burst of baby fever may indicate a change-of-heart in her personal outlook, considering she's been vocal in the past about how difficult her previous pregnancies were. In 2017, she told The Elvis Duran Show:
Neither Clarkson nor Blackstock have publicly said that differing views on family planning played a role in their split, but considering her comments, it's possible that may have been a source of tension for the couple.
Kelly Clarkson's baby fever notwithstanding, the singer reportedly made Brandon Blackstock get a vasectomy while she was pregnant with their son Remy. The singer was very up front about this fact during an October 2016 appearance on Jenny McCarthy's SiriusXM show.
The American Idol winner shared,
"I was literally pregnant with Remy, and I was like, 'You are getting fixed. This will never happen to me again. If something happens, it's a miracle of God. I literally told my OBGYN on the table while open, 'If I get pregnant again, I will find you!'"
Clarkson even got her own tubes tied just to ensure that they wouldn't conceive another child unexpectedly. Talking about her pregnancy experiences, the singer said,
"It's horrible. Nothing is beautiful, nothing is magical. Whatever, you're that person that gets that pregnancy, good for you. But I will remind my children every day of their lives what I [went through]."
Kelly Clarkson did make one public comment cooing over an adorable baby, but other than that one remark, she's been very adamant throughout the years that her family was complete. During a September 2017 appearance on WKTU's Cubby and Carolina in the Morning, Clarkson said,
"Oh god, those tubes are gone! That's blasphemy. We don't even speak of it. We're both fixed in our own ways, yet still we'll probably get pregnant again somehow. I always feel bad because I have friends who have a hard time getting pregnant and I'm just like guys, I have the worst pregnancies ever, it can't happen again!"
In an October 2016 E! News interview, Clarkson was asked if she and Brandon Blackstock wanted more kids and she shared,
That's understandable. While it's been reported that Blackstock did not want any more children, it truly does seem like he and Clarkson were on the same page with that one. Watch the video to learn Why Kelly Clarkson's Ex Didn't Want To Have More Kids!
