There are also niche communities where users are able to be creative in different ways. The Retail tiktok community poses as faux brand accounts, often posing as Purell, Dasani Water, Walmart, and popular take-out restaurants. There are also accounts play-acting as food products like Takis and Cheetos. The creators are rebelling against the verified side of tiktok where content doesn’t feature much originality. Massive tiktok stars like Bryce Hall, Addison Rae, and Avani Gregg may be at the top of the app, but haven’t been able to break into the Elite side. These stars embody the aspects of the app that the Elite or “Alt” side wants to get away from. With their uniform-like outfits of jeans and hoodies and reused music, the members of Hype and Sway house don’t stand a chance of being accepted into Elite.
