The Truth About Kim Kardashian And Meek Mill's Relationship

On the night of July 21, 2020, Kanye West went on a Twitter rant, and things got pretty uncomfortable. Some of the people he posted about included his wife, Kim Kardashian West; her mom, Kris Jenner; and more. The tweets, which have since been deleted, referenced a supposed meeting Kim had with rapper Meek Mill in 2018. West wrote in one of the tweets: "I been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Waldorf for 'prison reform'" He added in a separate tweet, "Meek is my man and was respectful...That's my dog...Kim was out of line" While Kanye didn't make any clear accusations, his phrasing seemed to imply that something untoward happened between Kim and Meek, a claim that reportedly doesn't stand up to scrutiny. According to a report by TMZ, the meeting in question took place in 2018 at the Inaugural Criminal Justice Reform Summit at the Los Angeles Waldorf Astoria. As the TMZ report makes clear, the meeting was far from a one-on-one affair. Sources told the outlet that Kim and Meek were never alone during the meeting. In reality, they were joined by philanthropist Clara Wu Tsai at the restaurant Jean-Georges Beverly Hills, which is located at the Waldorf Astoria hotel. A witness told TMZ that Kim left the hotel immediately after the meeting, and that she was alone when she did so. Their sources also claimed that meeting is the only time Kim and Meek Mill have ever been in a room together. On July 22, Meek Mill chimed in with his own side of the story. In response to Kanye's claims that something went down between him and Kim, Meek tweeted: "S--- is cappp cmon....." …with "cap" being a slang term for a lie or falsehood. People has since reportedly reached out to the rapper for more elaboration, but thus far, his tweet is his only response he's made to Kanye's accusation. Kanye hasn't said anything else about Meek Mill since that initial tweet, and Kim hasn't publicly addressed his accusation that she was somehow "out of line." She did, however, share a long post on her Instagram Story on July 22, opening up about her husband's ongoing struggles with bipolar disorder. In the story, Kim wrote in part: "I've never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye's right to privacy when it comes to his health. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health." She went on to ask for empathy and compassion toward both Kanye and their family while they navigate what she's characterized as a mental health crisis. It's worth mentioning that Kim and Meek Mill seem to have had no romantic history together, contradicting what Kanye's tweet seemed to suggest. The two instead reportedly met in 2018 to discuss prison reform, a cause Kardashian West has devoted her time and energy to in recent years. Criminal justice reform is a cause that Meek Mill has also focused his own energies on, with a personal interest centered around his own experiences with the justice system. In 2017, the artist was sentenced to two-to-four years in prison for allegedly violating the terms of a probation period that he had been under since 2008, when he was arrested at the age of 19 on drugs- and gun-related charges. The prison sentence sparked an outcry from fans and commentators, drawing international attention and celebrity support to his cause. He ultimately only served five months in prison. After being granted a new trial, his original 2008 conviction was finally overturned, and the Philadelphia District Attorney released a statement acknowledging that he had been, quote, "unfairly treated in a case that exemplifies the destruction caused by excessive supervision, instances of corruption, and unfair processes in our criminal courts." After his release from prison, Meek Mill said in a statement: "Although I'm blessed to have the resources to fight this unjust situation, I understand that many people of color across the country don't have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues." In his since-deleted Twitter rant, Kanye also claimed that he's been trying to get a divorce from his wife ever since the meeting between Kim and Meek happened. But sources told Page Six that divorce isn't in the cards for this Hollywood couple. The source reportedly told the publication, "Now is not the right time for divorce. They're smart enough to know it's not a good look. She'll put on a show of trying to support him, then a divorce can happen later." Whether or not that report is accurate remains to be seen. For now, Kim Kardashian West appears to be standing by her husband, despite any accusations he may be making. #KanyeWest #BipolarDisorder #KimKardashian
