Former Child Stars Who Went Off The Deep End

Child stars bring home some serious bacon before even hitting their teens. But making that infamous transition from baby-faced cutie to bona fide industry powerhouse has been a notoriously difficult task. While some celebs manage to successfully make the jump, plenty of others have tragically gone off the deep end. Corey Feldman hit the big time at just 3 years old after appearing in more than 100 commercials. But it wasn't as glamorous as it looked. He later described the experience to the A.V. Club as being, quote, "child slavery." Feldman's father was mostly absent, and his mother was reportedly abusive. And he claimed that he numbed the pain with marijuana and alcohol for the first time on the set of 1986's Stand By Me. It would be the beginning of a long battle with substance abuse. When he was 15, Feldman was legally emancipated from his parents, but they'd already allegedly squandered his earnings, leaving him a measly $40,000. People magazine reported he developed a cocaine habit, which was followed by heroin, and he was arrested three times and sent to rehab in 1990. He claims that other than one relapse in 1995, he has not used a hard drug since. Still, there are indeed bright spots in the actor's life. He married his longtime girlfriend, Courtney Anne, in 2016.
