The Dancing Pallbearers of Ghana | Behind the Meme
Dec 06 2020
With death at the forefront of everyones’ minds during the Coronavirus outbreak, it's no surprise that one of the biggest memes to come out of the COVID 19 pandemic is a video of Ghanaian pallbearers dancing with a coffin at a funeral. The men in that video became known as the Dancing Pallbearers, but in Ghana they’re known as Nana Otafrija Pallbearing and Waiting Service led by Benjamin Aidoo. VICE meets with Benjamin Aidoo and others involved in the creation and proliferation of this meme, to investigate the video's origins and why it resonates so strongly in the current state of the world.
