Meghan's parents, Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle raised her together before divorcing when she was young. Meghan described the unkind perceptions that met her parents' interracial marriage in a 2015 Elle essay about her upbringing. She revealed, "It was the late Seventies when my parents met, my dad was a lighting director for a soap opera and my mom was a temp at the studio.
