What You Don't Know About Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews’ Pregnancy
Feb 03 2021
In September 2020, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his fiancée Brittany Matthews announced that they were expecting their first child, a baby girl. The news came less than a month after Mahomes' very public proposal to his partner of eight years. Mahomes proposed after his Super Bowl ring ceremony in one of the suites at Arrowhead Stadium.
The pregnancy announcement first came in an Instagram post on Matthews' account, with Matthews and Mahomes holding an ultrasound of their baby. She wrote in the caption,
"Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding."
Relatively speaking, 2020 was a great year for the couple, with Mahomes' team, the Kansas City Chiefs, winning the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. It was the team's first championship in 50 years. And Mahomes is also hoping to lead his team to another Super Bowl victory in 2021 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on February 7. With the due date of Mahomes and Matthews' first child imminent as well, it appears as though 2021 will be another stellar year for the couple.
The expectant parents first met as students at Whitehouse High School in Texas. Though they went to separate colleges, they managed to maintain a strong romantic relationship through the years. Her partner may be a world champion quarterback, but Matthews is no slouch when it comes to athletics. She's a certified personal trainer and often posts workout videos to her Instagram. Throughout her pregnancy, Matthews has continued with her passion for fitness by posting pregnancy-safe workouts for her followers.
In one post, Matthews offers an important shoutout to all mothers to be, writing in the caption:
"Honestly, I'm lucky enough to get 3 workouts in a week so full body is just what I am doing right now. Listening to my body, and just keeping it moving is where I'm at right now. Everyone is different, every pregnancy journey is different, but we are all mamas creating a beautiful child and that is such a blessing!!"
Throughout the past few months, Matthews and Mahomes have celebrated the impending birth of their daughter with lavish, but also COVID-safe parties, including Matthews' baby shower, which included a trip on a private jet to a mysterious destination. She later shared pictures on social media, along with the caption:
"Thanks to my gals for going to [Texas] to shower baby girl and I. Everyone has quarantined and been COVID tested for my baby shower. Thankful to have amazing close friends and family that will stay safe for the sake of me & my baby girl."
Matthews also posted her official pregnancy shoot to Instagram in January 2021, showing off her ever-growing baby bump amid dozens of pink flowers. She also shared several behind-the-scenes images from the shoot, including pictures of her getting glammed up and ready for her on-camera session.
Matthews has also gone on social media to give fans a look at how she's decorating the room for the new baby girl. The nursery is done up in a moon-and-stars theme, and accessorized with furniture fit for a baby princess, in muted tones of soft cream and pink. In one photo, Matthews excitedly posted her baby girl's bejeweled drawer handles with the caption,
"The most beautiful handles for the most beautiful baby girl."
While Matthews has been busy marking milestones and celebrating her daughter's impending arrival, dad Patrick Mahomes has been keeping his eye on the prize: the opportunity to secure another championship win at Super Bowl LV, and perhaps even another MVP award. And while we're sure he's committed to bringing home a historic back-to-back victory for the Kansas City Chiefs, Mahomes is perhaps even more excited to finally meet his daughter. The quarterback told Kansas City's 610 Sports Radio show, The Drive:
"Hopefully, right after the Super Bowl I'm able to bring a little girl into this world and get to become a dad in the offseason and get to see that process as well."
Judging from the size of Matthews' baby bump, it's likely that Mahomes will get to meet his new baby daughter very soon.
