Last summer, college student and singer-songwriter Penelope Scott uploaded two snippets of her song, “Rät,” to TikTok, calling it a “breakup letter to the tech cult that is Silicon Valley.” The song was still a work in progress at the time, but it quickly took off online and became one of her biggest hits on streaming thus far. The self-produced track, which appears on her most recent album, Public Void, has racked up nearly 30 million streams on Spotify alone.
