Lil Uzi Vert's New Look Is Raising Eyebrows
Feb 05 2021
Rappers are no strangers to flaunting their wealth. From expensive bags to sports cars, from houses to jewelry, they often want to show fans that their hard work has paid off. While some use their wealth to transform themselves into trendsetters, others find ways to push the boundaries of displaying their money in unorthodox ways — as is the case with Lil Uzi Vert.
The rapper has been known to spend his fortune on watches, clothes, jewelry, and cars. He famously dropped $1.7 million on Floyd Mayweather's Bugatti in 2019, but his latest purchase has everyone on social media talking. Uzi revealed that he had a pink diamond implanted into the middle of his forehead, and it supposedly cost a fortune.
Lil Uzi Vert revealed his face bling on Instagram in February 2021. The rapper posted a video showing off his new pink diamond in a video with the caption "Beauty is pain." Uzi's purchase came a week after he tweeted his desire to have a gemstone attached to his face. Uzi tweeted on Jan. 30, 2021
"I've been paying for a natural pink diamond from Elliot for years now. This one stone cost so much I've been paying for it since 2017."
The rapper then retweeted a claim that the diamond was worth $24 million, adding that the gem was worth more than "all my cars together, plus home."
Fan reactions toward Uzi's new statement piece were mixed. Some commented on the high price tag. One user tweeted.
"@LILUZIVERT we need a receipt on that 24 M im not sold,"
Others compared Uzi to Marvel Comics' character Vision, played by Paul Bettany in the Marvel films, and alluded to ripping out the stone from his forehead like Thanos did in Avengers: Infinity War. We guess the comparison was simply…
"Inevitable."
Uzi did not reveal the inspiration behind his latest look, but his Instagram profile features the character Tsunade from the anime Naruto, a character who likewise has a gem embedded in her forehead, so we can assume that was an inspiration. Regardless of where the idea came from, he's definitely redefined what it means to rock body jewelry.
Still, that hasn't stopped critics from suggesting that the expensive piece of jewelry isn't centered on his face. One fan tweeted,
"Lil uzi vert's diamond implant not being centered is really bothersome."
Another wrote that the allegedly uncentered pink diamond is "trifling."
In an Instagram Live following the original reveal, he explained that a bar behind the diamond may cause it to look a bit off center.
"So, it's actually in the middle. This jawn in the middle. I just got a long bar in it because I just got it pierced and the swelling, when the swelling goes down ... short bar, so it won't move. Y'all keep talking about it's off. It's 'cause I got a long bar in it so it can move 'cause it's swelling. But when it go down, we gon' be right there."
The uncentered diamond drama may be cleared up, but that didn't stop others from finding more issues with his new ornament.
In fact, one Twitter user called out the double standard seen on the internet in just one day.
"Twitter today: 'Chrissy is out of touch because she spent $13K on wine!' Twitter, later today: 'Awesome! Lookit 'Lil Uzi Vert's cool, $24M face diamond!'"
Just hours before the "Over Your Head" rapper posted about his new embellishment, Chrissy Teigen was slammed for sharing a story about unknowingly purchasing a $13,000 bottle of wine while dining with husband John Legend. Critics were quick to point out her privilege following her tweet. One person wrote,
"Did you recover? Meanwhile people are out here drowning in debt, losing their homes, and can't afford to see a doctor."
Another chimed in, saying her story was "tone deaf."
Teigen defended herself with a light-hearted, slightly sarcastic statement,
"Honestly, I will be that person for you. it is fun to gang up on me. I *see* the convos that bring you together in your owning of me. I make it easy. have fun."
Meanwhile, Uzi seemed unbothered by his critics. For him, that may simply be "The Way Life Goes."
