The Duke and Duchess of Sussex crashed a poetry class over the weekend, but it wasn't just their impromptu visit that has people so excited. The virtual class for teenagers was held by Get Lit, an organization which, according to its website, "use[s] poetry to increase literacy, empower youth, and inspire communities."
Get Lit posted a screengrab of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's visit to the class on Instagram, in which the other attendees were visibly surprised and delighted by the royals dropping in. Get Lit wrote in the caption of the post,
"It was the best weekend EVER! Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, were magic and kind and interested in poetry! The Duchess even shared some of her favorite poetry lines. We are so grateful for their visit in honor of Black History Month. It goes down as most epic experience in Get Lit history!!!"
The organizer's manager of public outreach, Mason Granger, wrote about Meghan and Harry dropping in on his own Instagram and revealed how inspiring Meghan was during the class.
"My favorite part of it all was Meghan echoing so many sentiments we've talked about in class, about this particular moment in time/history to be a young person and the ripple effect of a single voice."
Granger continued,
"The root of them deciding to come is because at some point in their lives, they were moved by a poem. And whoever wrote that poem at some point thought to themselves, 'Does this even matter? Is anyone even listening?' And they shared it anyway. Fast forward ripple ripple ripple..."
The couple spoke to the class for 45 minutes, and also interacted with the students. Granger wrote,
"It was pretty surreal. My kids shared poems, they asked questions, the kids answered and asked questions back, they responded authentically (they actually read and learned the kids' bios I'd sent earlier)."
Get Lit founder Diane Luby Lane revealed to HuffPost that Meghan and Harry were the ones who contacted the organization about speaking to the kids.
Their appearance was overwhelming for some of the students. She said,
"Our Poets' mouths hit the floor. After they left, one of the poets started crying and said 'I need someone to explain what just happened right now.'"
Meghan and Harry attending the online class would already have been a significant and impactful moment, but fans also couldn't help but notice that they seem to be living their best lives. One royal watcher tweeted, quote, "They look so happy!" Another wrote,
"I don't know if it's the California effect... but Harry and Meghan look so good and glowing every time they show up."
It's been a little over a year since Meghan and Harry relinquished their duties as senior royals and moved to North America, eventually setting up a home in California. Since then, they've kept a much lower profile than they did as official royals, and it seems to be suiting them.
This isn't the first time that people have observed how refreshed Meghan and Harry appear. Last February, just weeks after they stepped back from the royal family, relationship expert Jane Greer observed how much more relaxed they already seemed based on their body language. She told Women's Health that, quote, "Harry is definitely less stiff" since their move.
The decision to break away from the royal family was reportedly a huge relief for Meghan and Harry. A source told Us Weekly shortly after their departure was announced,
"Meghan feels free. She has never been happier. She's happy to be out of London."
Sources say that Meghan and Harry are doing well in their new life and relishing their more private lifestyle. A friend of the couple recently told Vanity Fair,
"Getting the right balance between public and private is very important to them. They left for many reasons, for freedom and independence, but also to give Archie the chance to have an ordinary childhood."
The change has been particularly good for Prince Harry, who has been in the spotlight for his entire life. Royal biographer Omid Scobie told Vanity Fair last year,
"Here is a man who's very content and happy with his marriage, his family life, and thriving within his professional life. This is the moment he can sit back and think, 'I made it.' He has found his happiness." Watch the video to learn why Meghan Markle's Latest Appearance Has The Internet Buzzing!
