Gayle King Adds Fire To Meghan's Claims About The Royal Family
Mar 12 2021
The world is still reeling after an explosive interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. During their conversation with Oprah Winfrey, the couple discussed topics that left viewers stunned. Markle admitted that while working as a member of the royal family that she, quote, "just didn't want to be alive anymore." The Duchess of Sussex explained that she asked for help multiple times in regards to her mental health, but nothing was done. The pair also said there were conversations amongst the royal family about "how dark" their baby's skin tone would be.
As one might expect, some critics have questioned the validity of these accusations, but Gayle King is backing up Markle's claims. The anchor explained,
"I think Meghan has plenty of receipts, meaning she's been keeping track of things."
Markle's friend of 17 years, Janina Gavankar, also echoed similar sentiments while she was appearing on the British show This Morning. Gavankar said the royal family and staff were very much aware of issues. Not only that, but they have the receipts to show proof of purchase, explaining:
"And there are many emails and texts to support that."
During the interview, Markle also wanted to clear up rumors that had been reported in the press that she said weren't true. The tabloids circulated stories that she made her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, cry over bridesmaid dresses for the wedding. The actress explained that the opposite was true, and it was Middleton that left Markle in tears. Markle said,
"And I don't say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something. But she owned it, and she apologized and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing."
Queen Elizabeth recently released a statement after the bombshell interview and said that the royal family was saddened to hear how difficult the last few years have been for the couple. The statement read,
"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."
If there was anyone who knows whether there might be more tea to spill, and whether the tea was legit, it would be Gayle King. After all, Gayle and Oprah Winfrey are famously best friends. They are so close that Gayle was the one who reached the talk show queen to tell her how much of an impact her interview was having. But instead of focusing on the response her interview was getting, Winfrey didn't appear too fussed. King said,
"She's sitting on her back porch reading a book, not paying attention to all of this. I said: 'I'm telling you, this is big.' [She said]: 'Is it?' Yeah, no it's big!"
Gayle was also involved in a rumor that the bombshell interview took place at her house in Southern California. Winfrey debunked the rumor, saying that the lush, green space was not hers or the royal couple's, but it also wasn't Gayle's — chiefly because she doesn't own property in Southern California. Gayle spends her time in Manhattan, where according to House Beautiful, she has a penthouse.
