How Billie Eilish Overcame Her Insecurities
Sep 24 2021
Billie Eilish is happier than ever and we love that energy for her.
No, we’re not talking about her latest album (though we easily could be because it’s that good, but that’s besides the point). But looking at where she was when we first heard about her to where she is now, it’s like looking at a new person. And we’re not just talking about the clothes she wears (though that’s an important part of it; we’ll get to that later), but how she feels about herself. When she appeared at the Met Gala earlier this month, it wasn’t just the dress that made her shine, but how she wore it. The confidence she had was almost contagious and we love that for her.
While we see her as a confident pop sensation now, it hasn’t always been that way. Billie was a dancer in her younger years and she opened up about how she felt insecure in an already competitive industry. When she suffered a severe dance injury at 13, she was forced to give up her passion, and it heavily affected her mental health and how she felt about her body. Some of this followed her into her music career. While we loved Billie’s edgy look that completely worked for her, she later opened up about wearing baggy clothing because of the negative opinions that people tend to have on women’s bodies. Especially bodies that differ from traditional beauty standards (so like, normal bodies). And we’ve seen people judge her for both her baggy clothes and the ones she chooses to wear now. As if… you know, that’s anyone’s business.
But lately, we’ve seen Billie change up her style, ditching the baggy clothes for Gucci skirts and corsets (looking at you, British Vogue cover). It’s not that she’s wearing more form-fitting clothes that really made the difference. It’s the way she carries herself after feeling more confident in her own skin, despite the hateful comments. And we see that in her baggier clothes as well. Billie Eilish has had some pretty dark days that followed her into her career. But as she’s grown and her mindset has changed, she’s inspired so many people to love themselves, no matter what the no-name internet trolls say. And for that, we commend her.
