Many were devastated when James Gandolfini died of a heart attack on June 19, 2013, at the age of 51. A renowned actor, Gandolfini has an impressive body of work, though it was his role as Tony Soprano on the hit HBO series “The Sopranos” that took his career to new heights. Not only did he win three Emmys for his work on the series, but he earned a whopping million per episode.
While his death may have come as a shock to most of his fans, it wasn’t as much of a surprise to network executives. This is the real reason HBO was so concerned about James Gandolfini before his death.
