Athlete Autopsies That Had Disturbing Discoveries

In recent years, the National Football League has taken a great deal of flak for the prevalence of brain trauma found in deceased former players. The most common cause is something chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), or repeated head trauma that causes the brain to literally degrade over time. Over the years, a number of sports figures have died unexpectedly, and their autopsies try to get to the bottom of what may or may not have happened. CTE is often cited as a factor, but it's not the only upsetting common autopsy result.
