A BRAZILIAN professor has refused life-changing surgery to remove a large tumour on her face. Luciana Kele Dorini, 37, was born with a tiny birthmark on her right cheek that has swollen over the years to become a rare tumour known as arteriovenous haemangioma or AVM. Despite 19 surgeries to control the bleeding, Luciana’s unfortunate facial deformation continued to change shape and plague her social capabilities. Luciana has been offered a number of surgical procedures to remove the tumour altogether, but has begrudgingly declined them all due to the life-threatening nature of the proposed treatments.
