They might be wrinkly, but they're quite irresistible. They're cute and affectionate, sometimes a bit too affectionate, as Liz Hayes discovered. They are in fact, eight young elephants from Thailand. Zoos in Sydney and Melbourne have spent years and tens of millions of dollars on a so-called rescue mission to bring them to Australia. Only to end up in a bitter international row over animal rights. And it's certainly a tough call. Are these creatures better off in the wild, or locked up for our amusement?
