The mystique of Mount Everest that lures adventurers to their deaths | 60 Minutes Australia
Jan 01 2023
From down here, it sometimes looks like sheer madness. But there is something about Everest, a mystique that lures adventurers from all over the world - too often, to their death. In fact, more than 200 people have died trying to conquer the mountain, at least a dozen so far this year. In 2006, we lost pioneer Australian climber Sue Fear in the Himalayas. And of course, there's also Lincoln Hall, presumed dead, then miraculously rescued. His survival is the stuff of legend. But, as Peter Harvey reports, it also raises difficult moral questions - like how could anyone leave a man for dead?
