The bizarre Japanese law that makes kidnapping legal

In Japan, there is a law that allows a parent who separates from their spouse to legally kidnap their children and be awarded sole custody if there is a dispute. This means that co-parenting does not exist in Japan, and the parent who was last living with the children is automatically given custody. This law has caused issues for 82 Australian children who have been abducted and taken to Japan by their Japanese parent. Shared custody is not a common concept in Japan and is viewed as strange. An investigation by "60 Minutes," "Sydney Morning Herald," and "Age" reveals the challenges faced by parents trying to recover their children from Japan.
