Gangs, cops, and militias have a choke-hold on some of Brazil’s neighbourhoods. As these groups battle for power, innocent people are massacred in the crossfire. An app called Fogo Cruzado tracks the deaths the government won’t. It alerts people to shootings, sending out push notifications so that people can avoid a potentially deadly area. It also tracks which groups are committing the murders.
