Kidnapped for 18 days: How police found 4-year-old Cleo | 60 Minutes Australia
May 14 2023
Who will ever forget the beautiful face of Cleo Smith? She’s the courageous little girl who, in the middle of the night, was abducted from her parents’ tent at a remote Western Australian campsite. For 18 long days Australians and millions of people around the world held their breath, desperately hoping, though not really believing, that Cleo would be found safe and well. But she was, thanks to one of the most meticulous and determined police investigations ever undertaken.
In a 60 MINUTES exclusive, Tara Brown reports the untold story of Cleo Smith’s kidnapping and rescue. Brown speaks with Cleo’s parents, Ellie and Jake, to find out how their daughter is coping 19 months on from her horrifying ordeal. She also reveals dramatic new footage taken in the first few hours following Cleo’s disappearance, and uncovers extraordinary new insights into the case, all of which culminated at the moment she was found in the happiest four words ever heard from a four-year-old: “My name is Cleo.”
For over forty years, 60 Minutes have been telling Australians the world’s greatest stories. Tales that changed history, our nation and our lives. Reporters Liz Hayes, Tom Steinfort, Tara Brown, Nick McKenzie and Amelia Adams look past the headlines because there is always a bigger picture. Sundays are for 60 Minutes.
