Meet the nomadic tribe regarded as the "greatest survivors" | 60 Minutes Australia

REWIND TO 2009: In the 1980s, nurse Valerie Browning packed her life in Australia and decided to live with a tribe of nomads, the Afar people. In the dry Ethiopian desert, it is expected to see tragedy and despair but Valerie sees beauty, hope and a lifestyle that should be envied by westerners.
In 2023 after being dubbed as the ‘Queen of the Desert’ by the Afar, 73-year-old Valerie still lives with the nomadic group and continues to improve their lives through maternal healthcare.
For over forty years, 60 Minutes have been telling Australians the world’s greatest stories. Tales that changed history, our nation and our lives. Reporters Liz Hayes, Tom Steinfort, Tara Brown, Nick McKenzie and Amelia Adams look past the headlines because there is always a bigger picture. Sundays are for 60 Minutes.
