Deadly mushrooms: Everything you need to know | Under Investigation
Aug 26 2023
Botanist and mycologist Professor Brett Summerell has spent 35 years studying deadly fungi like the death cap mushroom.
When five people gathered for a special Saturday lunch, within days, three were dead and a fourth is fighting for his life.
Their symptoms suggest poison by the deadly death cap mushroom.
The meal they had eaten was beef Wellington - a dish consisting of a beef filet coated with a paste of mushrooms and other ingredients, then wrapped in pastry.
Professor Summerell told Under Investigation it takes just a small chunk of mushroom about the size of a 20 cent piece to cause massive problems.
For over forty years, 60 Minutes have been telling Australians the world’s greatest stories. Tales that changed history, our nation and our lives. Reporters Liz Hayes, Tom Steinfort, Tara Brown, Nick McKenzie and Amelia Adams look past the headlines because there is always a bigger picture. Sundays are for 60 Minutes.
