Cystic Fibrosis Sisters Advised to Stay 6 Feet Apart by Doctors | BORN DIFFERENT
Feb 23 2024
Sisters Alexis and Georgia were born with cystic fibrosis, a genetic condition that causes excess mucus in the lungs. Alexis went undiagnosed for the first nine years of her life, but when Georgia was born, genetic testing revealed both sisters had CF. Doctors initially gave a grim prognosis, predicting Alexis would only live until 18 due to lack of treatment. They also advised the sisters to stay 6 feet apart at all times to minimize infection risk. Despite the challenges, the sisters have spent time in the hospital and understand the risks. With improving treatments and a new drug, Alexis has surpassed doctors' expectations and turned 25. Georgia is hopeful to start the new drug soon, and the sisters are looking forward to a long and healthy future together.
