Daniel Stern Tricks Donald Trump into Paying $7K Bar Tab
During the filming of "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York," actor Daniel Stern managed to outsmart Donald Trump, who offered to pay for his drinks at the Plaza Hotel bar. In his memoir, "Home and Alone," Stern recounts the amusing tale of how he and his crew members took advantage of Trump's generosity.
Trump, who owned the Plaza Hotel at the time and made a cameo in the movie, allowed the production to film at the iconic location, adding prestige to the film. Stern reveals that while Trump may not have been the most engaging conversationalist, the meeting with him proved to be beneficial.
One night, while enjoying drinks at the Oak Room in the Plaza, Trump and his then-wife Ivana entered the bar and offered to pick up the tab for Stern and his group. Seizing the opportunity, Stern and his friends indulged in rounds of drinks, eventually emptying the bar of booze and treating the entire establishment.
As the night came to a close at 4 a.m., Stern and his friend debated the final tab, with Stern estimating it to be around $7,000. Despite the hefty bill, Stern reflects on the experience with satisfaction, stating, "We still feel really good about that."
