King Charles and Prince William Alter Royal Schedules Due to General Election

May 24 2024

King Charles and Prince William have made changes to their schedules this week in response to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's call for a surprise general election on July 4.

As per Buckingham Palace's statement, the monarch, aged 75, and his eldest son, aged 41, have decided to postpone their engagements for the remainder of the week to avoid any distractions from the election campaign.

It is customary for the royal family to pause their engagements ahead of an election to maintain their apolitical stance.

Despite the cancellations, some major events such as the King's visit to Normandy to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings and William's visit to Omaha Beach to honor veterans will proceed as planned.

Both Charles and William recently returned to public duties, with a joint appearance at the Army Flying Museum in Hampshire earlier this month.

Charles resumed his royal duties in April after undergoing cancer treatment, while William briefly stepped away from his duties when his wife, Kate Middleton, was diagnosed with cancer following surgery.

Middleton, in a video message, shared her journey of undergoing preventative chemotherapy and remains out of the public eye while undergoing treatment.

As Middleton continues her treatment, it is uncertain when she will resume her royal duties. Her last public appearance was in December 2023 at the Christmas Day service with her family.
