Andy Cohen Responds to Leah McSweeney's Lawsuit

May 25 2024

Andy Cohen has taken action to dismiss Leah McSweeney's discrimination and substance abuse lawsuit, arguing that her allegations are unsubstantiated. In documents obtained by People, Cohen's legal team contended that McSweeney's claims of him exploiting her alcohol issues for ratings should be dismissed.

McSweeney, a former "Real Housewives of New York" star, had accused Bravo of using her history of alcohol addiction and mental health disorders to boost ratings. She claimed that producers encouraged her drinking habits and hindered her access to support, leading to a violation of her employment rights.

However, Cohen's team refuted these claims, stating that they did not aim to showcase intoxicated cast members and that any such decisions would fall under their First Amendment rights.

The filing also argued against McSweeney's gender/sex-based harassment allegations, citing statute of limitations and legal standards under the New York City Human Rights Law.

In response to Cohen's motion to dismiss, McSweeney's lawyer, Sarah Matz, criticized the technical grounds of the argument, emphasizing the importance of anti-discrimination laws in creative industries.

Aside from Cohen, McSweeney also filed lawsuits against Bravo, Shed Media, and Warner Media, alleging drug use among Housewives employees. However, these claims were denied by Cohen's representative as false.

Following an external investigation that cleared Cohen of the drug allegations, McSweeney's legal team expressed skepticism about the validity of the findings, questioning the thoroughness of the process.

Despite the legal battle, Cohen remains steadfast in his stance, asserting his integrity and conduct throughout the ordeal. The ongoing dispute between Cohen and McSweeney underscores the complexities of legal challenges in the entertainment industry.
