Stephen Belafonte Files $5M Defamation Lawsuit Against Mel B
Stephen Belafonte, the ex-husband of Spice Girls member Mel B, has made headlines by filing a bombshell $5 million defamation lawsuit against the singer. In court documents obtained exclusively by GentNews, Belafonte accuses Mel B, whose real name is Melanie Brown, of engaging in a deliberate campaign to cause him severe emotional distress and destroy his reputation.
The film producer alleges that Mel B began a "long-brewing harassment" campaign in 2017 with domestic violence claims that she later dismissed before he had his day in court. Despite this, Belafonte claims that the damage had already been done, leading to him losing access to his home and children.
In the lawsuit, Belafonte also includes text messages purportedly sent between Mel B and her bandmate Geri Halliwell, revealing discussions about leveraging charity for personal gain. Belafonte accuses Mel B of enriching herself through her charity ambassadorship at Women's Aid.
Additionally, Belafonte claims that their marriage was plagued by Mel B's serious substance abuse issues, including the abuse of cocaine, alcohol, and prescription drugs. Despite the tumultuous divorce between the two, Belafonte has maintained primary custody of their daughter since 2019.
Belafonte, who is not looking to settle, plans to donate any earnings from the lawsuit to an abuse program for women. The legal battle between the former couple has been ongoing since their divorce in 2017, with both parties making shocking allegations against each other.
As the lawsuit unfolds, the public eagerly awaits the outcome of this high-profile legal dispute between Mel B and Stephen Belafonte.
