Armie Hammer Sets the Record Straight: No, Robert Downey Jr. Didn't Pay for My Rehab!
Armie Hammer recently sat down with Piers Morgan to clear the air on a persistent rumor circulating in Hollywood. The actor vehemently denied the speculation that Robert Downey Jr. footed the bill for his rehab following a tumultuous period of allegations involving emotional abuse, manipulation, rape, and even cannibalism in 2021.
Setting the record straight, Hammer, 37, firmly stated, "No, he did not. He did not pay for me to go to rehab." However, he did acknowledge the "Iron Man" star's unwavering support during his challenging times.
When pressed for details, Hammer chose to keep the specifics under wraps, only revealing that Downey Jr. had been "supportive" amidst the storm. Reflecting on the ordeal, Hammer expressed gratitude towards those who had been instrumental in his journey to recovery.
Speaking of Downey Jr.'s role in his life, Hammer shared, "In Hollywood, when anyone struggles with addiction issues, that guy will find you and he will help you." Downey Jr. himself had battled personal demons, serving time in prison before resurrecting his career to become an Oscar-winning actor.
Reps for Downey Jr. remained tight-lipped on the matter, declining to comment on the situation.
In a surprising turn of events, Vanity Fair reported in July 2022 that Hammer had checked into a Florida rehab facility to address his struggles with drug, alcohol, and sex addiction.
Prior to this, rumors swirled about Hammer's behavior, with insiders alleging that his ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers, endured infidelity during their marriage. Chambers eventually filed for divorce in 2020 after a decade together.
During his candid conversation with Morgan, Hammer admitted that without the public scrutiny and allegations, he might not have confronted his substance abuse issues. "That's how these things go. It's dopamine. It's getting those hits in your brain," he explained.
Addressing the most shocking claims head-on, Hammer debunked the notion of having a cannibalism fetish with a touch of humor, stating, "You know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to have actually eaten someone."
While vehemently denying the allegations of sexual abuse, Hammer did admit to branding his ex, Paige Lorenzo, with a knife, clarifying that no blood was drawn in the process.
Following the tumultuous period and a documentary shedding light on his personal life, Hammer retreated from the public eye. However, in a recent podcast appearance, he revealed that he has never been happier, embracing the freedom that comes with being "canceled."
"It's incredibly liberating because so much of my life leading up to there was being preoccupied with how I was perceived, which now you don't have to care about," Hammer shared.
