Aubrey Plaza's ACL Mishap: From Knockout to Crutches at WNBA All-Star Weekend!

Jul 21 2024

Aubrey Plaza, known for her wit and charm, found herself in a whirlwind of events during the WNBA All-Star Weekend. The 40-year-old actress, best known for her role in "Parks and Recreation," took to the basketball court for a friendly game of "knockout" at the Phoenix Mercury practice facility. Little did she know that this casual game would lead to a significant injury.

According to sports commentator Ryan Ruocco, Plaza tore her ACL during the intense game, causing a stir among fans and fellow players. Despite the setback, Plaza's spirit remained unbroken as she soldiered on to attend the WNBA All-Star game later that evening.

As Plaza navigated the arena with crutches and an ice wrap around her knee, she found support from WNBA legend Sue Bird, who was seen adjusting Plaza's ice pack alongside Megan Rapinoe. The camaraderie and sportsmanship on display highlighted the bond shared by athletes across different disciplines.

Amidst the cheers and excitement of the All-Star game, Plaza managed to inject her trademark humor into the proceedings. Photobombing a picture of New York Liberty player Sabrina Ionescu and Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark, Plaza showcased her playful side despite the injury.

Reflecting on the unexpected turn of events, Plaza seemed to take it all in stride. Recalling a previous ACL tear in 2016 during a women's recreation league game in Los Angeles, Plaza shared her humorous take on the situation.

"I decided to play in disguise as somebody else," Plaza recounted during a live recording of Rapinoe and Bird's podcast "A Touch More." "I was like, 'No one will know it's me. It's great.' And then, in the middle of the game, I went up for a shot and tore my ACL on the court in a wig."

Despite the challenges she faced, Plaza's resilience and positive attitude shone through. From stretching before the game to laughing off the mishap, Plaza's journey from the court to crutches was a testament to her indomitable spirit.

As Plaza continues her recovery and looks ahead to future endeavors, her presence at the WNBA All-Star Weekend serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of sports and the unwavering determination of athletes, both on and off the court.
