Prince William and Kate Middleton's Diversity Drive: Revealing Staff Makeup

Jul 24 2024

Prince William and Kate Middleton are making waves in the realm of diversity within their staff, as per a recent report. The royal couple's household boasts a team of 66 individuals, with approximately 14 percent, equating to around nine members, hailing from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Newsweek also highlights that within their staff, 67 percent, or 44 individuals, are female, leaving the remaining 22 as male counterparts. The Sovereign Grant report emphasizes ongoing efforts to bolster inclusion and diversity within the royal household, aiming not only to enhance representation but also to foster an inclusive culture that encourages engagement and authenticity across all teams.

Contrastingly, Buckingham Palace presents distinct diversity data based on its staff makeup and has set a target to achieve 14 percent representation from ethnic minority groups by 2025. King Charles III's royal household reported that 11.4 percent of its employees hailed from ethnic backgrounds.

The report also sheds light on the average pay gap, standing at 3.9 percent, indicating that employees from ethnic backgrounds received lower pay compared to their white colleagues. Additionally, 53 percent of the staff were female, with a gender pay gap reported at 2.2 percent.

Representatives for Buckingham Palace have yet to respond to inquiries from Page Six regarding these findings. This report follows the commitment made by the Prince and Princess of Wales' foundation in 2021 to drive greater diversity.

The 2020 trustees' report affirms, "The Royal Foundation remains committed to equality and diversity and to ensuring a positive, safe, and respectful environment that promotes the wellbeing and dignity of its employees, applicants, partners, suppliers, and those it represents." The report delves into the financial and employment data of the foundation from January to December 2020, a period encompassing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to step back from their senior royal roles.

In their revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Markle disclosed that concerns were raised within the royal family regarding the skin color of her and Harry's son, Archie. While Harry refrained from divulging further details, he clarified that Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were not involved in the conversation.

"That conversation I'm never going to share, but at the time, it was awkward; I was a bit shocked," expressed the Duke of Sussex during the interview.
