Margaret Qualley Spills on Getting 'Wasted' for Raunchy Scene in 'The Substance'
Margaret Qualley, known for her roles in 'The Leftovers' and 'Once Upon a Time โฆ in Hollywood,' recently shared a candid insight into her experience filming a provocative scene in the upcoming movie 'The Substance.'
The 29-year-old actress, daughter of 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' star Andie MacDowell, confessed to resorting to unconventional measures to navigate a particularly intimate moment in the body horror flick alongside Demi Moore.
Qualley admitted to feeling out of her comfort zone during a highly sexual scene, stating, "That specific kind of sexuality doesnโt lend itself to me." The actress even recalled breaking down in tears during rehearsals, overwhelmed by feelings of shame.
To cope with the emotional intensity of the shoot, Qualley turned to a mix of marijuana and tequila, confessing, "And still, day of, I just got wasted first thing in the morning because I was like, 'I canโt do this in front of everybody.'" The Sunday Times profile noted that "a combination of weed and tequila provided Dutch courage" to help her through the challenging scene.
Despite her initial apprehensions, Qualley expressed admiration for working with Demi Moore in intimate scenes, humorously stating, "If Demi Moore wants to put her naked body on mine, go forth, please. I should be so lucky."
'The Substance' follows Moore, 61, as a former fitness guru who turns to a mysterious black market drug to transform into a younger, sexier version of herself, portrayed by Qualley.
The film is set to release on September 20, promising a captivating exploration of identity, desire, and the consequences of chasing perfection.
