Jay Cutler Arrested for DUI and Gun Possession

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler found himself in hot water after being arrested in downtown Franklin, Tenn., on Thursday night. The 41-year-old sports figure faced charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and illegal possession of a firearm while intoxicated, among other offenses, following a collision with another vehicle, as confirmed by PEOPLE.

According to a spokesperson from the Franklin Police Department, Cutler was taken into custody on Thursday night and subsequently released on a $5,000 bond. The charges against the former NFL star include DUI (first offense), possession of a handgun while under the influence, implied consent, and failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision.

The Franklin Police Department released a statement the following morning, revealing that officers had responded to a minor traffic incident in downtown Franklin just after 5 p.m. local time on Thursday. Evidence at the scene indicated that Cutler had rear-ended another vehicle. Upon interacting with Cutler, law enforcement officers detected a strong smell of alcohol, observed slurred speech, and noted bloodshot eyes.

Franklin Police reported that Cutler declined to participate in field sobriety tests and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for a blood sample to be obtained through a blood search warrant. During a search of Cutler's vehicle, officers discovered two firearms, including a loaded pistol.

Following his arrest, Cutler was released on a $5,000 bond the same night. The former quarterback had a successful career in the NFL after being drafted in 2006, playing for 12 seasons with the Chicago Bears, the Miami Dolphins, and the Denver Broncos.

Off the field, Cutler was married to reality TV personality Kristin Cavallari in 2013, with whom he shares three children: sons Camden (11) and Jaxon (9), and daughter Saylor (8). The couple, who met in 2010 and got engaged a year later, finalized their divorce in 2020, citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct.

In the divorce proceedings, Cavallari accused Cutler of engaging in inappropriate marital behavior that made cohabitation unsafe and improper. She also asserted that any alleged misconduct on her part was in response to actions by Cutler. Following their split, Cavallari briefly dated TikTok personality Mark Estes before ending the relationship earlier this year.
