10-Year-Old Boy Dies After Foster Mom, Weighing 340 Pounds, Sits on Him for 'Misbehaving'

A 10-year-old boy from Michigan tragically lost his life after his foster mother, weighing 340 pounds, sat on him for five minutes as a form of punishment for what she described as "acting up."

The foster mother, Jennifer Wilson, reported to the police that Dakota Stevens had run away from her home that morning and was misbehaving after she brought him back from a neighbor's house.

According to Wilson, Dakota, who weighed only 91 pounds, threw himself onto the front lawn outside her home. In an attempt to discipline him, she sat on him while she called his caseworker. During this time, Dakota screamed for help, but eventually, he stopped moving, as detailed in court documents.

Wilson initially believed Dakota was pretending to be hurt until she noticed his eyelids had turned pale when she rolled him over. A court affidavit described her as appearing "visibly distraught" when police arrived to find Dakota unresponsive and without a pulse.

Despite being airlifted to a nearby hospital, medical staff were unable to save him. Tragically, Dakota was taken off life support just two days later, only a month after being placed in Wilson's care.

Authorities uncovered disturbing Ring camera footage that reportedly shows a 20-second clip of Wilson sitting on Dakota's head and neck, as his desperate screams gradually faded into silence.

Once she realized the severity of the situation, Wilson urgently instructed one of her other children to call 911. The footage captured her frantic attempts to revive Dakota as she repeatedly called out his name, realizing he had stopped breathing.

If convicted, Wilson faces a potential six-year prison sentence. At the time of the incident, she was fostering three other children in her Berrien County home. A spokesperson from the Department of Child Services confirmed that her foster parent license is currently suspended and is under review for permanent revocation.
