What a Nice Family: Wife of Alleged Corrupt Florida Sheriff's Deputy Arrested, Joins Husband in Jail on Racketeering Charges
Two individuals once united in matrimony now find themselves sharing a jail cell. Robin Severance-Lopez, the estranged spouse of Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez, was arrested on Monday, facing conspiracy to commit racketeering charges, as announced by Homeland Security Investigations in Tampa.
This arrest follows the earlier detention of her husband, who is embroiled in a scandal involving a significant gambling operation near the tourist hub of Walt Disney World. Sheriff Lopez was charged with felony racketeering for allegedly facilitating this extensive illegal enterprise.

Prosecutors assert that Lopez received personal payments and campaign contributions in exchange for protecting the gambling activities. However, specific details regarding Severance-Lopez's role in the operation remain undisclosed.
In response to the allegations against him, Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order suspending Sheriff Lopez and appointed a Florida Highway Patrol official to oversee the county's law enforcement.

The gambling operation, which included four other defendants, reportedly managed a lottery, slot machines, and a “gambling house” at a venue called Fusion Social Club located in Kissimmee, Florida. Court documents indicate that the organization generated over $21.6 million in illicit revenue.
“As law enforcement, we are held to higher standards of integrity and character than other professions,” stated Mark Glass, Commissioner of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. He emphasized that Lopez's actions undermined the trust placed in him as the elected sheriff of Osceola County.

Initial inquiries directed to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office went unanswered. Meanwhile, County Manager Don Fisher clarified that the county had no involvement in the investigation and expressed support for the interim sheriff.
In a separate incident last December, Sheriff Lopez pleaded no contest to violating state records laws, resulting in a $250 fine for posting an image online related to the death of 13-year-old Madeline Soto. The girl's mother's boyfriend has been charged with her murder.
