Confronting Favela Violence Through Tattoos | Under the Ink
Aug 14 2019
In this episode of Under the Ink, VICE meets Tucka, a local tattoo artist in Rocinha, one of Rio de Janeiro's largest favelas.

Favelas are slums or shanty towns within or around Brazil's cities. Despite being neglected by the government, favelas have maintained self-sustainability. However, this also breeds organized crime, creating a dangerous environment for its residents.

Tucka has become a key figure within her community through covering up gang-related tattoos and scars. VICE follows her to explore the beauty within one of Brazil's most dangerous neighborhoods.
