Sam Smith was 10-years-old when they came out to their family, but it was only two years ago that they heard the word that ultimately brought them relief and finally made them feel seen: “Non-binary”. As they release their new album Love Goes, the Grammy and Oscar-winning musician talks to contributing editor Paris Lees as part of British Vogue’s In Conversation series about the impact changing their pronouns had on their worldview, how a heart-wrenching break-up inspired their latest music, and why they are finally learning to be kind to themselves – a process that has felt to them like “coming home”.
