Noah Cyrus' Outrageous Grammys Outfit Has The Internet Divided
Mar 15 2021
While her sister, Miley, is no stranger to the award show, Noah Cyrus made her Grammy debut on Sunday, March 14th 2021. The "July" singer was nominated for Best New Artist, along with Ingrid Andress, Phoebe Bridgers, Chika, D Smoke, Doja Cat, Kaytranada, and Megan Thee Stallion. Before the ceremony, Noah's father — Billy Ray Cyrus — sat down with his daughter to offer up some advice on an episode of "Music's Biggest Night: The Best New Artists" from Spotify's For the Record podcast.

Billy Ray was nominated for the same award in 1993, so he knows a thing or two about getting ready for "music's biggest night." He told his daughter to "be original" and "not be afraid to be yourself." It seems Noah really took that advice to heart when picking out her red carpet outfit. The singer wore a Schiaparelli Spring 2021 Haute Couture gown, according to Twitter, and it definitely had viewers talking.

Some users on Twitter thought the oversized white couture gown really resembled a comforter or tissue. As one user pointed out, it looked like Noah Cyrus rolled out of bed for the award show, but her bed said,

"I'm going WITH you.”

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the ceremony this year went virtual, according to Yahoo!, so a bed-themed look is very on trend. As one Twitter user pointed out, Noah's look was "smart and COVID friendly".

While the gown did cause some viewers to do a double take, others found the red carpet outfit to be the ultimate fashion statement. One Twitter user simply said,

"Noah Cyrus in Schiaparelli... that's it that's the tweet."

Even Glee actor Kevin McHale sung Noah's praises by saying,

"We need to put some more respect on @noahcyrus. She's so goddamn talented."

Whether you liked the look or not, there's no denying that Noah Cyrus was totally original and made a big impact on her first Grammy night.

This isn't the first time Noah has shocked with an awards show outfit either. If you thought her Grammy's look was a bit much, the "Make Me" singer's 2020 CMT Music Awards outfit was just the opposite. While performing her song "This Is Us" with Jimmie Allen, Noah wore a nude bodysuit with a sparkling bikini top and bottom, which was very reminiscent of Britney Spears covered in diamonds in her "Toxic" music video. To accessorize, Noah also wore white thigh-high boots, long gloves, and a sparkly cowboy hat.

According to CNN, Noah ended up being the talk of the entire awards show, and it's all because of her outfit that caused viewers on Twitter to wonder if she was actually naked or not. She was in fact wearing a bodysuit, but some viewers thought it was "distasteful," others thought it was "outstanding." Regardless, the outfit did exactly what it was supposed to do — stand out. So, it seems whether she's wearing all of the fabric available or none of it, Noah Cyrus continues to prove that she's a style icon worth noting.

If you've been a fan of Noah since she was little, you know that her style has grown and evolved as she has. One of her first red carpet appearances was for the premiere of the movie Ponyo, where she provided the English dub voice for Ponyo, in 2009. For that, she arrived on the red carpet in a simple and cute polka dot black and white dress.

A few years later in 2015, Noah started to show a bit more of that edge that you can see today when she arrived on the red carpet for a Peta event in a black gown with a dark lip color to match. Then, in 2017, Noah wore what looks like a combination of her 2015 Peta and 2020 CMT Music Awards outfits — a sheer black gown — for the premiere of Fifty Shades of Grey.

So, if you have been following along, Noah's recent outfits at the Grammys and CMT Music Awards are just the evolution of her style. The major difference is her jump from a nude bodysuit to a couture gown that some say look like a "crumpled up tissue." But of course, that's just her continually surprising viewers and being the talk of the town.
