Khaby Lame ‘Voluntarily Deported’ After U.S. Visa Overstay
TikTok influencer Khaby Lame departed the United States on June 6 after facing issues related to his visa status. Reports surfaced that he had been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Las Vegas.
Initial rumors suggested that Lame was being held at the Henderson Detention Center, with various social media accounts claiming to have evidence from ICE’s online locator. However, an ICE spokesperson later confirmed that he was detained at Harry Reid International Airport due to immigration violations linked to overstaying his visa.

Lame, who arrived in the U.S. on April 30, made a notable appearance at the Met Gala shortly thereafter on May 5. According to ICE, he was granted voluntary departure on June 6 and subsequently left the country.
Despite earlier claims regarding his status on ICE’s locator, as of June 7, there was no record of his detention. This discrepancy raises questions about the accuracy of the information circulating online.
On June 7, Lame shared an Instagram Story featuring what appeared to be Venice Beach in Los Angeles, although this post was only available for a limited time. His TikTok account also featured a promotional post for Kellogg’s on the same day, leading some followers to speculate about his legal status, while others suggested it was a pre-scheduled update.
In January, Lame was appointed as a UNICEF ambassador and frequently travels to the U.S. for various events. His recent appearances include the Met Gala and NBA All-Star weekend, along with regular attendance at Formula 1 races.
The situation surrounding Lame reflects broader concerns regarding ICE's increased detentions of individuals with valid documentation, prompting protests across the country.
