Missoula Man Sentenced to Two Years for Public Intercourse with Dog

Jun 03 2025

Christopher Raymond Larue, a resident of Missoula, was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated animal cruelty stemming from an incident last August.

Larue's sentencing took place in a courtroom where he was brought directly from the Missoula County Detention Center. The case drew significant attention due to its disturbing nature.

On the day of the incident, police responded to a report of a man engaging in sexual acts with his dog near Reserve Street and 39th Street. Witnesses described seeing Larue on his hands and knees with his pants down, while the dog remained still in front of him.

One witness recounted the scene, stating that the dog appeared unresponsive. When approached by officers, Larue denied the allegations, claiming he had been accused previously. He insisted that he was merely lying on top of his dog, Koda, who was "looking at him and kissing him."

Following his arrest, Koda was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic for evaluation. The veterinarian's examination revealed concerning signs of trauma. Despite being administered pain relief, Koda reacted strongly when her tail was lifted, indicating distress.

The veterinarian's report detailed that Koda exhibited signs consistent with sexual assault, noting redness and unusual odors in her genital area. This evidence contributed significantly to the charges against Larue.

During the sentencing hearing, a witness provided a victim impact statement that highlighted the emotional toll of the incident. "Below your creepy dazed expression, I see the face of a dog who has given up," she said, visibly upset. "Our pets depend on us for safety, and it never crossed my mind they could be preyed upon."

In contrast, Larue maintained his innocence during the proceedings, stating, "I loved my dog; she was everything to me. No way in God's green earth would I have done anything that's being portrayed about me."

Having already served 209 days in custody since his arrest in August 2024, Larue will spend an additional 521 days behind bars as part of his sentence.
