Musk Leaves White House in a Blaze of Glory: Black Eye, ‘The Dogefather’ Tee, and Decor Zinger

May 30 2025

Elon Musk appeared at the White House with a noticeable black eye, the result of playful antics with his son, X Æ A-12, affectionately known as 'Lil X'. During a press conference alongside President Donald Trump, Musk recounted the incident, stating, “I was just horsing around with little X,” and encouraged his son to “go ahead, punch me in the face.”

“Turns out even a five-year-old punching you in the face does…” Musk began, only to be interrupted by Trump’s chuckle, who quipped, “If you knew X, he could do it.” Musk shrugged off the injury, saying, “I didn’t really feel much at the time; I guess it just bruises up.”

In a moment of levity, Musk referenced a recent incident involving French First Lady Brigitte Macron, who appeared to push her husband away during a public event. While President Emmanuel Macron dismissed the gesture as mere horseplay, it sparked considerable debate back in France.

During the press conference, Trump presented Musk with a golden key as a token of appreciation for his contributions to the Department for Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk, sporting a dark mark around his eye, complimented Trump’s taste in Oval Office decor, stating, “I love the gold on the ceiling.” Notably absent from his comments were any references to allegations of drug use reported by The New York Times.

Despite concluding his role as a special government employee, Musk expressed his commitment to supporting the president. He tweeted, “I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” emphasizing that the DOGE mission would continue to evolve within government operations.

Musk’s tenure left a significant impact on federal bureaucracy, resulting in thousands of job losses and cuts to essential programs like the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Researchers from Boston University estimate that these cuts have contributed to hundreds of thousands of deaths globally.

While Musk initially aimed for monumental reductions in federal spending—promising up to two trillion dollars—he later adjusted his target to 150 billion dollars for the current fiscal year. It remains uncertain if this goal has been achieved; the Doge website claims 175 billion dollars in savings but has faced scrutiny over inaccuracies.

Trump praised Musk’s efforts as “the most sweeping and consequential government reform effort in generations.” However, Musk’s departure from the administration coincided with his criticism of Trump’s legislative agenda, which he labeled a “massive spending bill” that undermines DOGE’s objectives.

“I think a bill can be big or it could be beautiful,” Musk remarked. “But I don’t know if it could be both.” In response to speculation about Musk's future involvement, Trump stated, “Elon’s really not leaving. He’s going to be back and forth; I have a feeling. It’s his baby.”

Trump continued to highlight Musk's achievements, noting his leadership of one of the most innovative car companies and the most successful space enterprise in history. During the press conference, Musk likened DOGE cuts to “Buddhism,” expressing hope for achieving a trillion dollars in savings.

The press conference encapsulated a blend of humor and serious policy discussions, reflecting the complex relationship between Musk and the Trump administration.
