Off-Duty New Jersey Policewoman Arrested for Alleged Violent Home Invasion, Assault on Two Victims
An off-duty police officer from New Jersey has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a home and assaulting two individuals inside. Toms River Police Officer Rebecca A. Sayegh, who has previously filed a lawsuit against her department for alleged sexual harassment, is at the center of this shocking incident.

The alleged home invasion took place in Berkeley Township just before 11:30 p.m. on a Friday night, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. Reports indicate that the 32-year-old officer forcefully "smashed the front glass door" of the residence before proceeding to assault and threaten the two occupants.
Prior to the home invasion, Sayegh reportedly vandalized one of the victim's cars parked in the driveway, further escalating the situation. The exact nature of her relationship with the victims remains unclear, but Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer confirmed that officers had responded to a "domestic disturbance" at the scene.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found Sayegh resisting arrest, but she was ultimately taken into custody. She now faces a range of serious charges, including home invasion burglary, assault, criminal mischief, terroristic threats, and resisting arrest. Currently, she is being held at the Ocean County Jail, awaiting a detention hearing.
When approached for comments regarding the incident, Toms River police Lt. Ron Sermarini stated, “As per our chief of police, we do not have a comment on the matter and refer all inquiries to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.”

This incident comes just six months after Sayegh filed a lawsuit against her employer, claiming that a "boys club" culture within the department led to her being sexually harassed and overlooked for promotions. Interestingly, she was previously recognized for her bravery after rescuing a woman and her pets from a burning home, highlighting the stark contrast between her past commendations and the current allegations against her.
