Only in Florida: Woman Claiming Sex Work and Drug Use Kidnaps Amazon Driver in Tire Mishap

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — What was supposed to be just another day on the job for an Amazon driver quickly morphed into a harrowing experience in Riviera Beach.

It all went down early Wednesday morning, right around the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Avenue S. The driver, facing a tire issue, decided to pull over for a moment. But then, out of nowhere, Dyshiema R. Mims hopped into the passenger seat without so much as a knock. According to the police report, she began making menacing gestures, as if she were brandishing a hidden weapon.

The driver, understandably shaken, later recounted to the police that Mims, 39, kept insisting, "Go, go, go," while her hand was tucked under her dress, giving off the impression that she was armed. It’s a scene that sounds like something out of a thriller, but it was all too real for him.

In a twist of fate, the driver managed to capture the entire encounter on his phone. The arrest report noted that the footage showed him desperately asking Mims, "You got a gun?" as she kept her hand concealed, creating an atmosphere thick with tension.

Things took a turn for the better when a passerby noticed the commotion and intervened, which prompted Mims to make a hasty exit from the vehicle. In a fit of rage, she allegedly hurled a rock at the Amazon driver’s car, causing damage, before disappearing into some nearby bushes. Fortunately, officers later located her on W 9th Street, where the driver was able to identify her during a "show-up" identification process. She was taken into custody without any fuss.

However, Mims had a different story to tell. She claimed that the driver had picked her up, fully aware of her background as a sex worker and drug user, and accused him of assault. Yet, her narrative fell apart under scrutiny, with the Riviera Beach Police Department noting inconsistencies and a lack of supporting evidence.

Ultimately, Mims found herself booked into the Palm Beach County Jail, facing serious charges including kidnapping, armed burglary, and criminal mischief. Quite the turn of events for what began as a simple delivery, wouldn’t you say?
